Overview of the Aluminum Extrusion Process

Aluminum extrusion is a manufacturing technique where preheated aluminum billets are forced through a custom-designed die using immense hydraulic pressure. As the aluminum exits the die, it takes on the desired profile shape—such as box sections, U-channels, T-sections, I-beams, grooved bars, round or elliptical rods—depending on the end-use application.

Detailed Steps in Viet Y Aluminium's Extrusion Process

Step 1: Selection and Preparation of Aluminum Billets

We use premium-grade aluminum alloys such as 6063, 6061, and 6005, either imported from reputable suppliers or produced in-house according to international standards. Each billet undergoes chemical composition and mechanical property testing to ensure suitability for extrusion.

Step 2: Preheating the Billets

The billets are heated in specialized furnaces to temperatures between 450°C and 500°C, making them malleable for extrusion. This stage is closely monitored with automated temperature sensors to maintain material integrity.

Step 3: Extruding Through the Profile Die

The heated billet is placed into the extrusion press. A hydraulic ram with a force of 1,000–2,800 tons pushes the aluminum through a precision-engineered die, designed using CAD/CAM software. The result is a sharply defined, consistent aluminum profile.

Step 4: Cooling the Extruded Profile

Once it exits the die, the aluminum profile is rapidly cooled using high-capacity fans or water mist systems. Quick cooling helps stabilize the material structure and minimizes warping.

Step 5: Stretching and Straightening

The profile is then stretched using specialized machinery to eliminate residual stress, ensuring straightness, optimal mechanical strength, and dimensional stability.

Step 6: Cutting to Standard or Custom Lengths

Profiles are cut using automatic saws into standard lengths (typically 6m or 5.8m), or custom lengths as per client requests. Precision measurements are taken to ensure minimal deviation.

Step 7: Heat and Surface Treatments

Depending on application requirements, profiles may undergo artificial aging (for hardness), anodizing, powder coating, or chrome plating. These treatments enhance durability, corrosion resistance, and aesthetic value.
